T1017M5 and M6 Ports for Nexus port-sized Housings
The Bare dome port assembly was designed by Barry Guimbellot and was machined
from a solid piece of 6061-T6511 aluminum to ensure it is water tight and is
hard anodized black to keep corrosion to a minimum. The dome port assembly is a 4 3/4 inch
diameter dome in a 5 1/2 inch outside diameter housing. The dome port
assembly is optimized
for the Tokina 10-17mm lens, with or without a Kenko 1.4X or 1.5X teleconverter
but also works well with the 16mm lens on a DX camera. (teleconverter not
included)
Each dome port assembly is hand made and tested to 150 ft. depth salt
water. Shade, Allen wrench and o-ring are included. Only use Nexus brand grease--not included.
The Bare dome port shade, included in the sale price, is made from the same aluminum and is also hard anodized black.
As you can see, the shade is not only functional but sturdy, held onto the port
housing with 4 stainless steel set screws. The shade is designed to reduce
flare with internal grooves. Because of the design of the dome port and shade, the
shade goes on straight each and every time and will not fall off while in the
water. The dome port shade and hex wrench for these screws is included with the
dome port assembly. The dome is made of optical grade acrylic and formed to exacting
specifications.
The small size of the Bare dome port assembly makes it easy to get your camera either, close to the
bottom, or in between obstacles.
The non-cropped image on the left was taken with the 10-17 Tokina (at10mm) F8,
ISO 500.
The non-cropped image on the right was taken with the 10-17
Tokina (at10mm) and a 1.4X teleconverter F8, ISO 500.
In our tests, we have produced extremely sharp images from
edge to edge, without the normal soft corners found in small dome ports.
Notice how sharp the features are in each corner.
Both above images were taken with the Kenko 1:4X teleconverter, the 10-17 Tokina
lens and the T1017M5 port. By using the teleconverter, you can get nice close-up
shots of timid animals. The T1017M5 port also works well with the Nikon
16mm f2.8 lens. The 10.5mm Nikon lens will vignette in our port without a
teleconverter, but the 10.5 and a teleconverter will deliver exceptional images.
